Author Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in publishing with Berklee Press. We publish about twelve products per year by Berklee College of Music faculty. Our primary focus is books based on or supplementary to Berklee College curriculum.

To propose a project for our consideration, please follow these steps, sending any materials to:

Jonathan Feist
Managing Editor, Berklee Press
Berklee College of Music MS-855 BP
1140 Boylston Street
Boston, MA 02215

A. Query Letter. A paragraph about the project and an author bio, so that we can understand the concept.

B. In response to the Query Letter, we might request a formal proposal. This should include:

1. Topical outline. Like a detailed table of contents.
2. Sample chapter
3. Estimated number of pages, notation examples, and diagrams.
4. Review of competing products, and a discussion of what makes this one unique in the marketplace.

Decisions regarding what gets published are based on many factors, and decided by four separate committees. We publish only about twelve titles per year, and unfortunately must pass on many interesting, well-written projects due to reasons other than project quality, such as our marketing focus, redundancy in our catalog, too many other projects in process, relationship of the proposed product to Berklee College curriculum and faculty, and so on.

Thank you again for your interest. Please use our contact form for any questions.

We look forward to hearing from you!
